Used Smith-Corona typewriters

Smith-Corona was formed in 1926 when L. C. Smith & Bros. merged with the Corona Typewriter Company of Groton, New York, and it became one of America's largest portable makers. Its 1950s 5-series portables (Clipper, Sterling, Silent, Super and Silent-Super), built in Groton, are many collectors' favourite American portables, offered in colours like Alpine Blue and Seafoam Green. The postwar Skyriter was its ultra-portable, later built in England and replaced by the English-made Corsair in 1964, and the 1960 Galaxie started the US 6-series. Smith-Corona portables are plentiful and good value: in late 2026 Silents asked about $110–210 delivered on eBay and Galaxies about $95–170. Note that the Skyriter and Corsair take small 1⅝-inch ribbon spools rather than standard 2-inch ones.
