Used Remington typewriters

E. Remington and Sons built the first commercially successful typewriter, the Sholes and Glidden, in 1873, and Remington stayed in the business for about a century, as Remington Rand from 1927. Its portable line includes the Noiseless machines, whose technology came from the Noiseless Typewriter Company that Remington bought in 1924: the type is pressed onto the paper through a weighted linkage rather than struck, so they are far quieter than ordinary typewriters. The 1950s Quiet-Riter, despite its name, is a conventional basket-shift portable, and the compact Travel-Riter was made by Remington Rand's Dutch subsidiary. Remington also controlled Germany's Torpedo from 1931. Remington portables are cheap and common: in late 2026 Quiet-Riters asked about $90–170 delivered on eBay and Noiseless Portables about $150–250.
